I've never been, but I've heard good things about the "Brickskeller" brew pub, 1523 22nd St. NW. This is a few blocks west of Dupont.

Pro: In the Guinness Book of Records for the largest number of varieties of beer.

Con: Their website [thebrickskeller.com] brings up an obvious unfinished template page. Google it for better info.

I can't commit to attend just yet, the date sounds familiar, I may have a commitment...

    Thanks for the info. Please say which (similar/close) date would be better for you, we're still not concrete on the date - I suggest the day before if you're not away then. That way the folks who want to go to the Maryland party can attend both. Hey, it's a ten year anniversary :)

      I'll be gone from the 18th to the 25th, so there's really no point in trying to work around me. (and well, then there's the rush before a trip, and the cleaning up afterwards, that really blows 1/2 the month)
      
      And the person who modded me can still post -- it'll just erase the mod if they do. (and trust me, I don't need the Karma)

  I concur that the Brickskeller is a nice venue. I've been there for another organized event and a couple times just with friends. It has a good amount of space, a bewildering selection of beers, and a pub atmosphere.
  
  It's an easy walk from the Dupont Metro station or the Georgetown area. They do check ID's so be sure to bring your license/passport.
  
  I will sign up to attend on the assumption that Brickskeller or something nearby is chosen. I can't make it to anything the week before or in VA.

One of the Maryland parties [slashdot.org] is being organized very close to DC. It is slated for October 20th, near the University of Maryland (accessible by metro).

It might make sense to combine with that party, rather than creating a new one for the same area. Most people will only attend one or the other!

    I'd consider both too, but I'm away for a wedding for the date of the DC meet-up. RFD is a great choice for a place to meet up. Brickskeller is a little overpriced IMHO.

        RFD = Regional Food and Drink (7th and H, about a block from the Chinatown/Gallery Place Metro on the Red Line). hyperstation mentioned it in his reply to the parent post. They boast a large of variety of beers and food isn't so bad either.

Alright, we need to think of how to make this one authentic. This page is public, so our ideas may well get hijacked, and there's only 13 of us (compared to like, 200 in Cali) so we'll have to make do with some interesting photography if you guys want a chance at winning the thinkgeek thing.

So far, I thought about buying tinfoil hats and everybody bringing their laptops with them. We can take pics all lined up with our laptops on the bar. I also have many variations invloving pretty women and tinfoil hats -

      I think we could probably manage to make our own hats. Somebody could beam a uniform design to everyone by mind-control ray, but it might be more interesting to have different designs. Also, fifteen people is more than enough to spell out "slashdot" with lettered T-shirts or something, that might photograph well. How long does it take to get custom T's made?

Ok guys, we have 20 seats in the Brickskeller reserved. Reservation is under the name "slashbot" or a variation thereof, because the cute girl on the phone who I talked to couldn't spell. I will be a little late (an hour or so) feel free to get drunk before I come.

Please note also that The Brickskeller Inn (a motel) is at the same address. We are in the restaurant/bar, not the Inn.

    You missed it you dumdum. We were all of 3 people at the party. Very embarrasing. Bright side: Alexandria,VA party has 33 people listed for 25th. That means that like, 6 people might come. I'm going.
